A reasonable price

PSG decided not to sell Neymar to Barcelona last summer, hoping the Brazilian superstar would help bring the team the Champions League title that is their sole goal at this point. Whether or not PSG can attain their desire remains to be seen, but the reality is that they missed out on their best chance to get the most value out of the 28-year-old on the open market.

The Ligue 1 giants are reportedly willing to let the player go for 150 million euros this summer, and depending on how the future unfolds, they could be forced to settle for a little bit less than that. And if Neymar’s desire to reunite with Barcelona is more ruse than reality – and his ambitions might change due to the unrest within La Blaugrana’s board room, compared to Real’s enviable organizational stability – then Real Madrid are the only real contenders. In that case, his price tag would drop more.

It’s either Real Madrid or Barcelona for Neymar, and at a potential price tag of less than 150 million, Los Blancos could get a steal.

The main issue, though, is spending this much money on Neymar could hurt Real’s chances of signing their true top target in 2021, Kylian Mbappe. How would they make up the funds? And would Real rather try to swoop for Erling Haaland instead of Neymar?

But Real Madrid need the goals now. So if Haaland and Mbappe aren’t available, spending a fortune on Neymar is a lot more appealing than spending a fortune on Harry Kane, who doesn’t carry the same threat or versatility as the former Barcelona man.
