Real Madrid fans will have to wait a bit longer for the season to return, but you do not have to wait any longer for our La Liga Team of the Season. Let’s get right down to it.

The formation for this 2019-2020 La Liga Team of the Season will be a 4-3-3, which should be familiar to Real Madrid fans. But how many players from Los Blancos will be in the team?

Defense

GK – Thibaut Courtois

Things didn’t start well for Courtois. He was coming off one of the worst seasons in his career in 2018/2019; the Belgian had a shaky start to this season, and it seemed like his poor form was going to continue.

However, he made a 180-degree turn in his performances, and by the time the season stopped in the middle of March, he was undoubtedly among the best in La Liga. His resurgence to form also coincided with Real Madrid‘s improved performance in the back.

According to FBref.com, he has a 74.2 save percentage only behind Unai Simon‘s 75 percent, a league-high 12 clean-sheets, and he has looked commanding around his goal. The former Chelsea man is well on his way to earn the Zamora trophy when the season restarts.

Right Back – Dani Carvajal

Dani Carvajal is a relentless force down the right-wing. He has often been the sole outlet for Real Madrid on the right-hand side when Zidane opted to give Isco a free role.

His ability to be in the final-third one moment and tracking back to defend the next has helped Los Blancos immensely.

There is no other right-back in La Liga who is rated higher than the Spanish international in Whoscored.com.

Center Back – Raphael Varane

Raphael Varane has been a pillar in Real Madrid’s backline. He often gets overlooked because of his more bodacious center-back partner Sergio Ramos, but the Frenchman without a doubt has been the more consistent defender this season.

He is one of the best defenders in the world at the moment, and his excellent form is the reason (along with Courtois) for Real Madrid having their best defensive record since the 87/88 season.

Center Back – Diego Carlos

Diego Carlos has been a stand-out defender for Sevilla. His performances have caught the eye of many big clubs, notably Liverpool, Real Madrid, and Barcelona.

He boasts an impressive 5.1 clearances per 90 minutes. The Brazillian has also done a marvelous job of covering for Jesus Navas when the Spaniard ventures too far forward.

Left Back – Sergio Reguillon

Real Madrid has another player from Sevilla who stakes their claim on the Team of the Season. The Real Madrid loanee has been a revelation for Sevilla in on the left-hand side.

Julen Lopetegui has used him as one of his attacking weapons creating chances at 1.7 key passes per game. He has one goal and four assists to his name.

That does not mean Reguilon has been egregious in the defensive side. The Sevilla left-back is brilliant in defense and is the most consistent two-way left-back this season.
