Real Madrid right back Achraf Hakimi has garnered interest from several top clubs around Europe, but there’s one thing that could keep him at Borussia Dortmund.

Although Real Madrid fans expect the club to have Achraf Hakimi for the 2020-2021 season after the completion of a two-year loan deal with Borussia Dortmund, there’s nothing guaranteed for Los Blancos.

Hakimi’s future remains up in the air, as the right back has received interest from a number of teams around Europe. PSG, Juventus, Chelsea, Bayern Munich, and even Arsenal have been linked with the versatile wide man, who played at least four different positions for the Black and Yellows.

Real Madrid remain the favorites to keep Hakimi, but Los Blancos could sell Hakimi – if Zinedine Zidane is comfortable with Dani Carvajal and Alvaro Odriozola at right back – to fund the signing of a priority goal-scorer this summer.

Hakimi’s agent Alejandro Camano recently told Sky Germany, via Bulinews.com’s Laura Brandt, that Dortmund are “still” an option for the Morocco international.

Sky reports that Hakimi’s future is contingent on playing time and whether or not Zidane can ensure the player is a regular starter at the Santiago Bernabeu.

His versatility could help him replace Gareth Bale at right wing in addition to competing with Carvajal at right back, but Hakimi would have a much easier time getting playing time at a club like PSG, where he’d replace Thomas Meunier.

And if Hakimi’s prime concern is regular playing time and enjoying his football as a 21-year-old star, then Dortmund have clearly shown a willingness to make great use of him. Dortmund is known for allowing young players to blossom, and there would be no concerns about playing time if he were to stay at the Signal Iduna Park.

Therefore, playing time is likely a primary reason why Hakimi still views staying in the Bundesliga with Dortmund as an option, even above flattering interest from even bigger clubs.

Real Madrid still seem like the favorites to hold onto Hakimi, but a loan deal or transfer, which could play into Madrid’s ploy to land BVB superstar striker Erling Haaland, isn’t out of the question by any means.
