Real Madrid may sit in second place at the postponement of the 2019-2020 La Liga campaign, but they have shown signs of resurgence under Zinedine Zidane.

The 2019-2020 La Liga season’s story has yet to be written, so Real Madrid could still emerge as champions in Zinedine Zidane’s first full season back as manager. Los Blancos have already rebounded from their woeful 2018-2019 campaign by playing competitive football under Zidane, who has received breakout performances from young players like Fede Valverde, Ferland Mendy, and Vinicius Junior.

But who have been the best players in the 2019-2020 season so far? Here is a ranking of the top five.

5. CM Fede Valverde

Real Madrid center midfielder Fede Valverde has been one of the biggest breakout stars in world football this season, going from little-known, but promising, prospect to one of the best box-to-box midfielders in Europe.

Valverde outshined Frenkie de Jong, who was purchased by Barcelona for 75 million euros from Ajax, in both Clasicos, putting in Man of the Match shifts in the middle of the park. A technically graceful player who scored a couple of goals from outside the box this season, Valverde can be deadly when starting counterattacks, recovering the ball quickly to create chances for others.

Defensively, Valverde’s non-stop running and work rate have been huge. Whenever he isn’t in the Real Madrid lineup, you can tell the team sorely misses his massive presence.
