PSG will likely lose Thomas Meunier this summer with the right back’s contract expiring, so they are reportedly targeting Real Madrid star Achraf Hakimi as his replacement.

Real Madrid right back Achraf Hakimi will have no shortage of suitors in the summer transfer market, because while Los Blancos seem keen to hold onto him, they may have to sell the young wide man if they receive a satisfactory offer. Real need goals, and Hakimi’s sale can help fund the transfer of a top goal-scorer, especially if they cannot sell players who interest other clubs less.

According to a report from MARCA’s Pablo Polo, PSG have interest in acquiring Hakimi this summer as a replacement for Thomas Meunier, who has an expiring contract. Meunier could join Borussia Dortmund as BVB’s replacement for Hakimi, though the Black and Yellows also seem to have interest in retaining Hakimi after a highly successful two-year loan.

MARCA cites a report from Foot Mercato which states that Hakimi likes the offer PSG have presented him.

A big factor in Hakimi’s personal decision is playing time, which he’s enjoyed a great deal of at Dortmund. The Bundesliga club stood by Hakimi through some lumps in his first season, and he blossomed in 2019-2020, even scoring copious goals in the Champions League as a winger.

At PSG, it would be easier for Hakimi to obtain playing time than at Real Madrid, since he would be competing with Dani Carvajal at the Santiago Bernabeu and would be directly replacing the previous starter at the Parc des Princes.

Zinedine Zidane will also have a huge say in the decision, since he could use the money from Hakimi’s transfer to sign a favored attacking target. But Hakimi can also be used as an attacker and is a better right back than Alvaro Odriozola, even in spite of questions marks about his defending. Whether or not Zidane trusts Odriozola remains to be seen, since it’s unclear how the decision to loan him to Bayern Munich relates to his feelings on the player.

Bayern, Chelsea, and Juventus have all been linked to Hakimi already.
