Real Madrid striker Luka Jovic had a quiet first season at the Santiago Bernabeu, but the club seems to have the utmost confidence in the young player.

Last summer, Real Madrid paid 60 million euros to Eintracht Frankfurt for breakout star Luka Jovic, who scored more than 20 goals across all competitions for the Europa League club in 2018-2019.

While Jovic only scored twice in La Liga last season for Madrid, he did so in only 392 minutes. In fact, of the seven Madrid players with two goals in La Liga – a list that includes Gareth Bale, Lucas Vazquez, Rodrygo Goes, and Vinicius Junior at forward – Jovic did so in the least amount of time. Vazquez was second with two goals in 640 minutes.

There has been a lot of speculation regarding Jovic’s future at the Bernabeu, with teams like Napoli and Tottenham linked to the young star. Even Arsenal has been rumored as a potential landing spot if Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang or Alexandre Lacazette were to move teams this summer.

But Madridistas should not expect there to be any transfers involving a player whom Zinedine Zidane fought to bring in during his first full transfer window in his second stint with the club.

According to a report from Mario Cortegana of AS, Real Madrid have contacted Luka Jovic and told him to focus on getting away from the media spotlight and training. They are expressing confidence in the player and have told him he will be a part of Zidane’s plans for the 2020-2021 season.

While Los Blancos want to sign another top goal-scorer, it’s unlikely they will sign Kylian Mbappe in 2020 or Erling Haaland either. And of the two of them, only Haaland would have to be the No. 9. Therefore, Real Madrid could sign another wide forward, such as Sadio Mane from Liverpool, and give Jovic more playing time to rest up Karim Benzema as he gets older.

Jovic is far more valuable in Real’s squad than elsewhere, and this line of thinking is reflected by the vote of confidence.
