Real Madrid have already been linked to a huge number of transfers for the summer 2020 window, but several of these ideas are just plain bad.
The transfer rumor mill has been more active than ever this year with little else to write about, and, as usual, Real Madrid have been one of the most frequently mentioned teams in transfer rumors.
From big-name dream targets like Kylian Mbappe to little-known center backs like Mohammed Salisu, Los Blancos have been linked to a wide variety of players and we aren’t even close to the summer transfer window yet.
Here are seven transfer rumors/links/ideas that just don’t make sense.
ST Raul Jimenez
Apparently Zinedine Zidane wants to bring in Raul Jimenez from Wolves to compete with Karim Benzema and Luka Jovic at striker, and I’m sure the wild rumors of Real Madrid giving up on Jovic after one season have nothing to do with this link.
The reality is that Jimenez makes no sense. He’s a fine player, but he is not a starting-caliber striker for a club like Real Madrid, which means they would be spending 50 million euros on a player whose 2019-2020 season was nowhere near Jovic’s 2018-2019 in terms of quality.
Furthermore, Jovic is 22 and has the upside to be a future superstar. At 28, what we’ve seen from Jimenez is what we’ll get from Jimenez. Chalk this one up as a deal that makes no sense, though I wouldn’t put any stock into Zidane actually asking Florentino Perez for Jimenez out of all the players he could target.
