Real Madrid still have the world’s best center back duo in Raphael Varane and Sergio Ramos, who took back the mantle in 2019-2020 after Varane posted another outstanding season. With all due respect to Virgil van Dijk and his current center back partner Joe Gomez at Liverpool, Varane and Ramos are still the benchmark.

Behind them, Los Blancos have found a competent young center back in Eder Militao, who looked worth the 50 million euros the club paid for him from FC Porto last summer. Militao had some tremendous displays in La Liga, especially when he was partnered up with Varane.
