Real Madrid: 2 best transfer targets at each position of need
Center Midfield
There’s some debate about whether or not Eduardo Camavinga is a true defensive midfielder or a box-to-box center midfielder, but it doesn’t really matter since he can excel in either role, even if his maximum long-term upside lies in a role that embraces his attacking intentions.
Camavinga was one of the best defensive midfielders in Europe at Rennes last season, despite being only 17 years old. According to WhoScored.com, only Ricardo Pereira averaged more tackles per game than Camavinga’s 4.2 among players in Europe’s top five leagues.
It’s unclear if Camavinga will be able to leave Rennes after their top-three finish earned them a place in the Champions League, but he is undoubtedly a priority target for Los Blancos. He may be the most impressive teenage prospect in the world.
CM Paul Pogba
While Paul Pogba is more likely to be made available by his club this summer, he will be more difficult to acquire due to his salary. Pogba is receiving interest from Juventus and even Inter Milan, with both Serie A clubs being great fits on paper. A reunion with Juve seems entirely possible.
But Real Madrid have been the dream destination for Pogba, where he’d fulfill his potential as one of the world’s best midfielders. Pogba has been one of the best all-around center midfielders in the world over the past several seasons before his doomed, injury-plagued 2019-2020 with Manchester United.
Pogba needs a change of scenery and would be a game-changer for Real, even if they don’t need another center midfielder. The man can do it all as a deep-lying playmaker, box-to-box midfielder, or even a goal-scoring midfielder.
