Amid rumors Kylian Mbappé is considering a renewal with PSG, the France international remains Real Madrid’s undoubted top transfer target for summer 2021.

It looks like Real Madrid won’t be able to make any splash signings this summer. Even if they are somehow able to sell both Gareth Bale and James Rodriguez in 2020 and have a financial situation allowing a major signing, neither PSG star Kylian Mbappé nor Borussia Dortmund teenager Erling Braut Håland are expected to be available this summer.

However, Real have known about Mbappé’s lack of availability and have long been playing the subtle game with recruiting the former Monaco star. Mbappé has yet to sign a lucrative renewal with PSG, who will likely play hardball with the young star, as they have done in the past in other transfer situations with the likes of Marco Verratti and Neymar.

Real Madrid maintain a great relationship with PSG, which included the acquisition of backup goalkeeper Alphonse Areola on loan with Keylor Navas being sold the other way to definitively make Thibaut Courtois the No. 1 at the Bernabeu. This “trade” was the most recent move between both teams, but, with PSG reportedly interested in some Real stars and Los Blancos dreaming of Mbappé, it’ll be far from the last.

PSG continue to patiently wait for Mbappé to renew, even though there have been signs pointing toward him pushing for a dream move to the Bernabeu to lead Real to victory under France legend Zinedine Zidane‘s guidance.

However, a recent report L’Equipe, via Andrés Onrubia of AS, casts some doubt on Mbappé moving to Real. Per the report, the 21-year-old is “seriously considering” signing a new deal with the Ligue 1 giants that would give him the “same salary” as fellow superstar Neymar.

Los Blancos have been holding out hope that Mbappé won’t re-sign with PSG so that by the time the summer 2021 transfer window opens, PSG will be forced to sell. Either that or PSG will truly play hardball and won’t sell, forcing their star to either stay with the club or sit out the season and then leave for free in 2022. Either way, Real Madrid win and obtain the best player in the world for free or a reduced price.

The latest report regarding Mbappé’s future is a reminder of two things. Firstly, that there is no guarantee Los Blancos will be able to sign Mbappé as their new centerpiece star for the next several years. Secondly, it’s a reminder that every bit of news regarding the versatile, free-scoring, complete forward is important, since he is by far Real Madrid’s dream target.

Next. Kane is not the answer for Real Madrid. dark

There is nobody – not even Erling Håland – who stands as a close second to Mbappé in terms of magnitude. He is the perfect fit for Real in so many ways, and there is no doubt the is the top player to target in 2021, regardless of how his situation changes with PSG. Right now, every rumor should be taken with a grain of salt, even if we will carefully observe them, but Mbappé’s potential value to Los Merengues is not to be taken lightly.
