Real Madrid: Toni Kroos’ five best games for the club this season
2. Real Madrid vs Club Brugge 2-2 (1/10/2019)
Los Blancos started this season’s Champions League in the worst way possible. Madrid was thrashed 3-0 by PSG in Paris, casting doubt from the fans about this team’s potential.
Then the Whites were off to the worst possible start in the second game against Club Brugge where they went down by two goals before halftime.
It was very important that Madrid not lose this game as it would have put tremendous pressure on the team for the rest of the group stage.
Real Madrid managed to secure a draw in the second half thanks to the efforts of Karim Benzema, Sergio Ramos, Casemiro, and Kroos, who led the team through their performances.
Kroos on that day had eight key passes, one assist through his pinpoint freekick delivery, and a 92 percent pass success rate.
The German and other leaders of the team did everything possible to ensure that the team didn’t suffer a defeat and that’s what makes this game one of his best of the season.
1. Galatasaray vs Real Madrid 0-1 (22/10/2019)
Something that has been recurring with Kroos this season is how he has been more of a leader for Los Blancos. And no game has personified that more than this one against Galatasaray.
It was a must-win game for the Whites after losing the first and drawing the second game of the CL group stage to have any hopes of qualifying for the round of 16. This was also Kroos’ 100th game in the Champions League, and boy did he mark it with a special performance.
The German Maestro was everywhere that day. He scored the only goal of the game in the 18th minute, he had four key passes, completed four of his five tackles, and had a typical 90 percent pass success rate.
But more than just his typically great performance, it was how he was constantly working hard and asking others to do the same, even going on to get annoyed (something that is rarely seen from Kroos) at James Rodríguez for losing the ball and risking a counter-attack at the very end of the match.
Toni also became just the fifth player to score on his 100th appearance. It was a special game from the German Maestro and the biggest reason why it was his best performance of the season.
