Real Madrid never conceded a single goal to Atletico Madrid or FC Barcelona in the 2019-2020 La Liga season, so they were unsurprisingly well-represented in the La Liga Team of the Season for FIFA 20.

On Friday afternoon, EA Sports FIFA 20 released its 2019-2020 La Liga Team of the Season so far, and no team had more players represented than Real Madrid, which comes as no surprise.

Technically, Los Blancos were tied with FC Barcelona at five, but loanee Martin Odegaard made the cut (as he absolutely should!) for Real Sociedad. So he counts as the six.

The current first-team squad players for Real Madrid who made the cut were mostly on the defensive side of the ball. Raphael Varane, Sergio Ramos, Dani Carvajal, Karim Benzema, and Toni Kroos were all well-deserving selections,

Yet, so many more players were snubbed. Thibaut Courtois had more clean sheets and fewer goals allowed per 90 minutes than either Marc Andre ter Stegen or Jan Oblak, yet he did not make the list. Casemiro was the league’s second-best player behind Lionel Messi but was nowhere to be found. Left backs Ferland Mendy and loanee Sergio Reguilon were left off. Fede Valverde was snubbed for Frenkie de Jong despite running him off the pitch twice.

FIFA 20 tends to go with the most popular players, hence why Kroos received love over Casemiro and Benzema made the Team of the Season over more defensive teammates on Real Madrid.

But we can’t complain too much. A league-high six players is well-deserved and reflects the fact that Los Blancos, as their record against Atletico Madrid and FC Barcelona shows, have been the best team in the league despite currently placing in second.

It’s also great to see Odegaard getting major love from EA, since he’s already one of the best players in the league. He’ll be an absolute treat to see at the Santiago Bernabeu full-time, whenever that day comes.
