Real Madrid and Paul Pogba have seemed like the most likely match, but Los Blancos may have already closed the door on the high-priced center midfielders.

Super agent Mino Raiola stated his desire to bring a world-class player to Real Madrid in the summer 2020 transfer window, with Madridistas immediately circling Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Braut Håland and Manchester United center midfielder Paul Pogba as the most likely options.

Pogba has been on Real Madrid’s radar for more than a year, but Zinedine Zidane was unable to sign his preferred target last summer. United were asking for far too much money, so Real wisely closed talks with the Red Devils.

Although Pogba did his best to stick it out with the Premier League side, injuries and continued struggles on the team’s part have made it seem like a split is best for both parties. Juventus have interest in a reunion, but Los Blancos have looked like the most logical landing spot for the superstar midfielder.

The optimism from some fans may not be based in reality. According to MARCA’s Jose Felix Diaz, although Pogba may be willing to take a salary cut, Real Madrid have no interest in signing a superstar player at this juncture.

Los Merengues may be an incredibly rich club, but the financial situation in football affects everyone. Real’s financial stability stems from their prudency, which is why they won’t suddenly reverse course and become as fiscally irresponsible as FC Barcelona out of desperation to sign a luxury player when they already have young breakout star Fede Valverde in midfield.

Pogba is a wonderful player, but it appears the door is closed on a transfer at this time. That could change, but, based on MARCA’s reporting, it looks like Real Madrid will wait to see if they can even make any sales to trim their squad before splurging on Pogba. Furthermore, there are cheaper options for Real, with MARCA naming Eduardo Camavinga and even Chelsea’s N’Golo Kante as being among them.
