Real Madrid striker Luka Jovic has suffered an injury, according to an official medical release from the team’s website.

It has already been a whirlwind of an offseason for Real Madrid striker Luka Jovic, who is headed for a bigger role in the team in 2020-2021 with Karim Benzema only having a couple of years left in the squad.

The offseason began with more rumors about a potential departure, including interest from clubs like Tottenham, Napoli, AC Milan, and Arsenal. Then, Jovic was arrested for breaking quarantine to see his girlfriend.

And now, according to the official Real Madrid website, Jovic has suffered an extra-articular (outside the joint) right foot fracture in the calcaneus bone, which is known as the heel bone.

It must be a painful injury for Jovic, and fans can only hope he makes a swift recovery from the injury.

The 2019-2020 La Liga season could still resume, with late June being a potential date. Marco Asensio and Eden Hazard should be back from their own injuries by then, but losing Jovic would hurt the team’s depth at striker.

Although Jovic has only scored two goals since signing on with Real for 60 million euros from Eintracht Frankfurt last summer, any criticisms of Jovic or worries of a transfer are exaggerated. Los Blancos, including manager Zinedine Zidane, see a lot of talent in Jovic and were always going to give him a minor role behind the legendary Benzema, especially in the Serbian international’s first season.

Jovic had some minor ailments early in the 2019-2020 season, but nothing as serious as a fractured foot. Again, we can only hope Jovic makes the best recovery possible from this injury, and it’s always awful to hear news of an athlete being injured.

Real Madrid can benefit greatly from Jovic’s instincts in front of goal, technical quality, clinical finishing, movement in the box, and underrated link-up play. The 22-year-old is absolutely a future star player.

Early reports indicate he could miss six to eight weeks with the injury.
