Real Madrid have enjoyed a positive 2019-2020 season under Zinedine Zidane, but who have been the team’s most valuable players thus far?

Although the 2019-2020 La Liga and Champions League campaigns could resume play in the coming months, now is a good time for Real Madrid fans to take stock of the individual performances thus far.

There have been plenty of standouts for Los Blancos, particularly on the defensive side, but who have been the team’s most valuable players in the season so far?

Here are five leading MVP candidates for Real Madrid in 2019-2020.

CDM Casemiro

Casemiro absolutely has to be the first name mentioned among Real’s most valuable players this season, because it’s hard to imagine the team ticking without him. The best defensive midfielder in the world, Casemiro shut down Lionel Messi in the second Clasico, aiding Real’s effort in an impressive 2-0 clean sheet over their bitter rivals.

Real, in fact, kept five total clean sheets against rivals Barcelona and Atletico Madrid in 2019-2020, with Case playing a key role in all of those games. The tireless midfielder helps on offense, too, as exemplified by his assist for Rodrygo Goes’ debut goal or his crucial brace in a 2-1 win over Sevilla.

The case can be made that Casemiro was La Liga’s Most Valuable Player overall after only Lionel Messi. It’s too bad defensive midfielders don’t get as much love, because Casemiro is one of the best players in the world at any position.
