Bayern Munich left winger Kingsley Coman has been a key member of the squad for the past couple of years, but Real Madrid and FC Barcelona may have a chance to sign him.
Real Madrid have their eyes on a world-class forward in the 2019-2020 summer transfer window, even though Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland won’t be available. Wide forwards like Leroy Sane, Jadon Sancho, and Sadio Mane have star power and may be out of reach, but Los Blancos may do their due diligence, especially if they can sell Gareth Bale and others to clear space for a new forward.
According to a report from Sky Sports Germany, via Manchester City Xtra on Twitter, Real Madrid are among three teams interested in Bayern Munich left winger Kingsley Coman.
The other clubs? Bitter rivals FC Barcelona and 2018-2019 Premier League Champions Manchester City, led by former Bayern manager Pep Guardiola.
Per Sky Germany, Coman could potentially request a transfer if Bayern purchase Leroy Sane from City. There’s nothing certain and Bayern reportedly wouldn’t want to sell, but it is interesting to see Real linked for Coman.
To be honest, this rumor almost certainly won’t come to fruition, since there are multiple factors at play. Firstly, as much as Bayern are interested in Sane, who is a true superstar talent, they keep submitting terrible offers to City that are borderline insulting. That is their usual negotiating strategy, and they can’t bully City like they bully the smaller clubs in the Bundesliga. Secondly, due to the pandemic, Bayern may not be able to meet the asking price, which City won’t lower since they are one of the few teams for whom the pandemic isn’t a major issue.
Coman could head back the other way for Sane, but it’s highly unlikely for Bayern to sell Coman even if they get Sane. While Coman may want more regular playing time, Bayern need as much star power as possible. Why would they sell Coman if the whole purpose of buying Sane is to improve the team?
As for Real Madrid, their best wingers are all more comfortable on the left, especially Eden Hazard and Vinicius Junior. Both of them are better than Coman, who has even bigger injury question marks than Hazard.
Don’t count on this deal happening. Only City seem to make any sense here, but Bayern would have to add cash to the deal to balance it out. Barcelona have a positional fit for a left winger, but they simply don’t have the funds. Both La Liga clubs should show restraint here.
