Although there have been rumors that Real Madrid could sell Eder Militao this summer to a team like Tottenham, most Madridistas find these rumors to be laughable. They understand Militao plays a key role as the unquestioned top backup center back behind Raphael Varane and the experienced – and oft-booked – Sergio Ramos. Currently, Militao is in line to succeed Ramos in a few years as a starter.

Real Madrid may have eyes on another center back, such as Real Valladolid star Mohammed Salisu, but they should definitely be high on Militao after a successful first season at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Militao put together some memorable performances in 2019-2020 when given a chance to start, especially when he paired up with Varane. His matches against Sevilla and Getafe in January were particularly strong, and he also had three tackles and four clearances in a key display against Osasuna in September, per WhoScored.com.

Real spent 50 million euros on the versatile Militao from FC Porto, and he’s delivered on expectations since then. Militao was a hefty signing, but based on his composure and athleticism, the 22-year-old looks like a future star for Los Merengues. Center backs often struggle to adjust to big clubs or new leagues, but Militao looked right at home in La Liga this season. Nobody should be giving up hope on him.
