The summer transfer market will be unpredictable this year, so does Real Madrid actually need to make a signing?

Real Madrid – and football in general – is trying to do everything in its power to return to “normal” after the coronavirus pandemic. Unfortunately, getting back to normal isn’t a switch and the past couple of months have drastically changed the plans for clubs, players, and football as a whole.

Even when it comes to Real Madrid, who are very healthy financially, there is no doubt that this will force them into some changes during the summer transfer window.

However, there is something that we are all forgetting here. New signings are always exciting but Real Madrid are in an extremely unique position with so many great players out on loan that even if they don’t sign anyone, this could end up becoming one of the most exciting transfer windows in quite some time. Let’s take a quick look at our loanees one-by-one.

1. Achraf Hakimi

Arguably our most spoken about loanee, Achraf Hakimi is expected to return to the club after spending two years with Borussia Dortmund and elevating his game dramatically. It’ll be difficult to see whether or not he’ll accept being Dani Carvajal‘s number two but either way, Achraf is a player that Real Madrid will definitely need in their squad. He offers something that no one else in the team can and he will definitely bring them a level higher.

2. Sergio Reguilon

As much as I love Sergio Reguilon, it seems like he may have to spend another year on loan and then come back to take Marcelo’s place in the squad. However, let’s be completely honest here: This summer is the time for us to sell Marcelo and bring back Reguilon.

He will be given the opportunity to fight for a spot with Ferland Mendy who has been extremely impressive during his first season in Spain. Both players are very strong defensively while Reguilon at the moment is the more dangerous player when going forward. They both deserve to be in recognition for the starting spot at left-back.

3. Dani Ceballos

Some ups and downs at the club meant he was never able to really cement his place in the squad before leaving for Arsenal on loan. We may be hoping for a little too much for him to come back into the team but anything is possible, especially with a player whose skill set is clear and well-known.

Ceballos definitely has a bright future ahead but it still remains to be seen whether or not that future is in this team. However, if Real Madrid are in fact looking for a central midfielder this summer, bringing him back could do wonders!

4. Martin Odegaard

The name on the lips of many is Martin Odegaard who has continued to impress during his loan with Real Sociedad. Even though the fans would love to see him finally return to the team, his agreement with Sociedad to spend a further season there could complicate things.

Having said that, Real Madrid are the ones in control of the deal and if they wish to have the midfielder back this summer, then it will almost definitely be done. There is no denying that Odegaard could prove to be a massive asset to the team.

5. Andriy Lunin

I understand that many wouldn’t rush to bring back Andriy Lunin but he could be a formidable backup to Thibaut Courtois. Currently, Alphonse Areola is occupying that place but as he’s expected to return to Paris Saint-Germain this summer once his loan ends, that opens up space for the young Lunin to come back and work with the team. He has the ability to be a future starter at the club.

Honorable Mentions

The five players mentioned could immediately make an impact if they come into the team, especially if we see some of the current squad members exit the club this summer. Rumors continue to persist in regards to players such as Marcelo, James Rodriguez, and Gareth Bale while we could see more players leave if required.

Real Madrid have a few more players out on loan this season that are expected to return in the summer. However, it may be difficult for them to find a place in the squad given the quality of the players there.

1. Borja Mayoral

With Karim Benzema and Luka Jovic fully expected to stay at the club – including rumors circulating around Erling Braut Haaland, there is simply no place for Borja Mayoral at the team. Real Madrid were looking to sell him last summer but couldn’t find the right buyer which eventually saw Mayoral leave on loan.

2. Takefusa Kubo

There is absolutely no denying that Takefusa Kubo has a bright future at the club but hoping to see him play at Real Madrid next season could be stretch. Maybe another year on loan to a mid-table team could help continue his development before he fights for a place at the Spanish capital.

3. Alberto Soro

Yet to finalize his move to Real Madrid, Alberto Soro has agreed to spend another year with Real Zaragoza on loan before making the move to the club. He has a lot to offer but unfortunately for him, he may have to wait a little bit longer due to the quality currently available in his position. It may be some time until we see Soro make his debut but when that day comes, it will definitely be an exciting one!

4. Alvaro Odriozola

After leaving on loan to Bayern Munich in the winter window, it’s expected that the club will be looking to sell him this summer. He hasn’t impressed Zinedine Zidane enough and with Dani Carvajal and Achraf Hakimi both expected to be at the club next season, there is simply no space for the right-back.

5. Jesus Vallejo

Jesus Vallejo has been good but not great which, to keep it simple, isn’t enough for a club like Real Madrid. With Sergio Ramos, Raphael Varane, Eder Militao, and Nacho Fernandez all fighting for a place in the center of defense, Jesus Vallejo will be the fifth choice center-back which pretty much means he won’t get a chance to play much if Real Madrid choose to keep him.

Real Madrid have done incredibly well over the past few seasons to bring in young talents with a mixture of some that stayed with the team and others going out on loan in order to gain more experience. This summer could be the one where we truly see it all pay off.

dark. Next. Everyone is forgetting about this Real Madrid star

Only time will tell but one thing is for certain: Real Madrid is in a very unique position and are more prepared for what lies ahead in comparison to other clubs.
