Real Madrid sold left back Theo Hernandez for 20 million euros to AC Milan last summer, but could they try to buy him back?

As the summer transfer window continues to feel further and further away, the rumors linking players to Real Madrid are getting a little more puzzling.

According to a report from Le10Sport, AC Milan left back Theo Hernandez would prefer a move to Real Madrid over PSG. The Ligue 1 club is interested in adding fullbacks this summer, including previous interest in Real loanee Achraf Hakimi, so their desire to add Hernandez makes sense.

But why would he prefer Real, the club who snubbed him, over PSG? Real bought Ferland Mendy for more than double what they sold Hernandez for, and he’s been incredible. There may not be a better defensive left back in the world. And they have another better left back than Hernandez coming back from loan in Sevilla’s Sergio Reguilon. Balancing those two with Marcelo – a possible, but not likely, transfer candidate – will be difficult enough.

Apparently, though, Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane wants Hernandez to return to the Santiago Bernabeu. This report seems to echo other rumors stating the club regrets selling Hernandez to Milan.

If they do regret the move, then it’s only because they received a mere 20 million euros. Hernandez was excellent in 2019-2020, as he was one of the best fullbacks in Serie A – if not THE best. He was Milan’s best player before the Zlatan Ibrahimovic transfer at mid-season, scoring a whopping five goals with two assists, 2.3 fouls drawn per game, two dribbles completed per game, and 1.2 key passes per game, according to WhoScored.com.

There aren’t many offensive fullbacks in Europe better than Hernandez, but don’t count on the 22-year-old returning to Real. Still, it’s believable that he’d prefer Los Blancos over PSG, as some players may not be believers in the PSG project over Real’s consistency as a Champions League title contender.
