Real Madrid loanee Achraf Hakimi had an excellent first game back
Real Madrid loanee Achraf Hakimi was back in action as the 2019-2020 Bundesliga season returned, producing a strong performance in a massive rivalry victory for Borussia Dortmund.
The Revierderby is one of Europe’s biggest rivalry matchups, but Borussia Dortmund made FC Schalke 04 look completely overmatched in front of a crowdless Signal Iduna Park, winning 4-0. While Real Madrid loanee Achraf Hakimi didn’t score or assist, he certainly made his presence felt on the opposite flank of goal-scoring hero Raphael Guerreiro.
Hakimi has been dynamite for Dortmund all season long, assisting 10 times in the 2019-2020 Bundesliga season thus far. He didn’t add to his assist tally against Schalke, but he was a constant threat throughout for the Black and Yellows, providing delicious crosses and absolutely ruling the flank opposite of Bastian Oczipka.
According to WhoScored.com, Hakimi completed nearly 90 percent of his passes, completing 46 in total including a key pass. The Morocco international also completed two successful dribbles and drew two fouls against the rival Royal Blues. On defense, Hakimi was solid, winning three tackles and recording a clearance for Dortmund.
It was yet another great game from Hakimi, who supported Dortmund’s attack from the right side as one of the world’s best fullbacks. Hakimi didn’t shirk from his defensive duties and provided constant offensive energy, using his pace and passing ability to progress the ball and start chances for his teammates.
Thorgan Hazard, Julian Brandt, Erling Haaland, and, of course, Guerreiro all offered high-class performances for this scary Dortmund side, but Real Madrid fans will also be pleased with how Hakimi performed.
Madridistas hope Hakimi can return to the Santiago Bernabeu for the 2020-2021 season from this incredible two-year loan spell with the Bundesliga giants, and this display against Schalke in the Revierderby was another reminder of the 21-year-old’s immense quality. He is everywhere on the pitch.
