Vicente Del Bosque is one of the greatest coaches of all time. He is a World Cup winner with Spain in 2010 and two years later won the EURO cup.

The former Los Blancos player started his coaching career with managing Real Madrid reserve side. He spent two brief stints as caretaker manager for the Merengues first team in 1994 and 1996 before taking a full-time position at the Bernabeu in November 1999.

Del Bosque took the reigns of the club during the first Galacticos era. Under his leadership, the Galacticos played beautiful football. He used the grit and engine of Steve McManaman, Geremi, and Claudio Makelele to balance out the flair and creativity of Zinedine Zidane, Luis Figo, and Ronaldo.

In his first season in charge, Del Bosque led Los Blancos to their 8th UCL title. The club, however, finished 5th in La Liga due to a poor start to the season under former coach John Toshack. The Galactico era was in top gear with the arrival of Luis Figo from Barcelona in Del Bosque’s second season. The former Castilla coach led the Merengues to domestic glory, winning Real’s 28th La Liga title and narrowly failed to defend their UCL title.

2001/02 season was once again a bust domestically. Real finished 3rd in the league and lost the Copa del Rey final against Deportivo La Coruna. However, Real Madrid were Kings of Europe once again winning La Novena. They defeated their arch-rivals Barcelona in the semi-finals before beating Bayer Leverkusen in the final thanks to the glorious Zidane volley.

The Salamanca man’s fourth and final season overseeing the Galacticos brought more trophy to display at the Bernabeu. The club won its 2nd Liga title under Del Bosque and also claimed the UEFA Super Cup and Intercontinental Cup the same season. Unfortunately, the legendary manager parted ways with the club at the end of 2002/03 season after disagreements about the transfer policy with Florentino Perez, the club President.

Nonetheless, Vicente del Bosque won two UCLs and Two La Liga’s – a total trophy haul of seven during his time at Real Madrid marking one of the best eras in club history.
