Real Madrid’s interest in Kai Havertz has been on-and-off over the past year, but it seems like manager Zinedine Zidane wants Los Blancos to make a move for the young German.

Kai Havertz dazzled the footballing world when the Bundesliga returned, scoring a brace with his head against Werder Bremen to remind fans why he is one of the best young players around. Real Madrid had previously been linked to the Bayer Leverkusen star, but the trail had gone cold over the past several months.

Los Blancos don’t need to sign an attacking midfielder, since it is their deepest position. Isco and Marco Asensio are both excellent players, and Real have other talented attacking midfielders on loan in Takefusa Kubo, Oscar Rodriguez, and Martin Odegaard. The last of those names is expected to be a superstar at the Santiago Bernabeu for years to come.

Even so, it seems like Zinedine Zidane, a former attacking midfielder himself, has a high degree of interest in Havertz.

Le10 Sport reports that Zidane talks about Havertz frequently and is smitten with the 20-year-old. They also report that Real Madrid have contacted Havertz’s representation, though no formal offer has been made.

And due to the financial situation in football right now resulting from COVID-19, Madridistas shouldn’t expect to see any formal offers made.

Havertz is a wonderful player who can excel as a center attacking midfielder, right winger (left-footed), or center midfielder. He has special qualities and is an even better prospect than Odegaard, in all honesty.

Maybe his price will drop significantly enough in the new market, but he’ll still be highly expensive. Real Madrid could get plenty of goals from Havertz and should weigh him as a future starting right winger, but they probably can’t make a move for him this summer, especially since they will need to sell in order to buy.

Superstar players likely won’t move teams in this coming transfer window, and Havertz is absolutely a superstar player. Zidane’s interest in Havertz should please Real Madrid fans, noting how talented Havertz is. But fans shouldn’t hold their breath on anything happening in the near future.
