AS.com’s Marco Ruiz recently reported Martin Odegaard will make his way back from Real Sociedad to Real Madrid, making the additional claim that Odegaard was actually never sent to La Real for two years.

Ultimately, Odegaard’s future should still rest in his own hands, even if Madrid may feel more pressure to recall him from Sociedad in the absence of money to make a splashy signing to boost the attack.

Real Madrid have a ton of excellent attacking midfielders, even assuming they are able to sell James Rodriguez to Atletico Madrid or the Premier League this summer. Isco and Marco Asensio are excellent, and Toni Kroos and Luka Modric can also play as No. 10’s.

But Asensio seems like more of a fit at right wing, and Isco may play there as well. Odegaard is on another level, though, recording 2.3 key passes per game and 2.4 dribbles per game in La Liga, per WhoScored.com.

The Norway star could be the difference-maker for teammates Karim Benzema, Eden Hazard, Vinicius Junior, and Rodrygo Goes, unlocking the full potential of the attack, especially for the other young players.

Before then, he will need to shine in order for Real Sociedad to maintain a Champions League trajectory. And if he stays there for one more year, he will be needed to help them hold their own in Europe’s premier competition.
