1. Dominating victory, Sweet retribution (Bayern Munich vs. Real Madrid – Semi-Final, 2nd Leg, 2013/2014)

Once again, Real Madrid was facing Bayern Munich in the semi-finals of the Champions League. Madridistas had fresh memories of 2011/12 season heartbreak at the hands of the German champions in the same stage of the competition. Los Blancos looked like they were on the verge of reaching the final that year but for the devastating exit in the penalty shootouts against the Bavarians.

In the 2013/14 season, the Royal Whites would have a rematch and a chance at revenge against Bayern. Real Madrid only managed a narrow 1-0 lead in the 1st Leg at home. Bayern was the defending champions and the favorites to win the tie under manager Pep Guardiola.

However, Carlo Ancelloti’s team was ready to take the fight to Germany. Sergio Ramos gave the Merengues the lead in the 16th minute with a powerful header. Four minutes later, it was 2-0 Real Madrid and 3-0 in aggregate after another thumping header from Ramos. Ancelotti’s team was putting on one of their best Champions League performance of the decade.

Bayern was feeling the pressure. All of a sudden, they now had to score four goals to reach the final. They pushed numbers forward in hopes of turning the game in their favor; the Madrid team took advantage of the situation with a dazzling counter-attacking move that ended with Ronaldo scoring Los Blancos’ third goal. The 13-time European champions were 0-3 up by halftime.

Sweet retribution to remember for Madridistas against their European Rivals.
