Real Madrid: Ranking the top 10 players before 2019-2020 resumes
6. Real Madrid CB Sergio Ramos
For years, Real Madrid have had the world’s best center back duo, going from the pairing of Sergio Ramos and Pepe to the current tandem of Ramos and Raphael Varane.
Ramos has been a constant for Real through their best years of this era, as the Spain and Real Madrid captain is a true leader in the middle of the pitch. Not only is he active in defense, reading the game and aggressively cutting out danger alongside Varane, but he’s also more than willing to keep things ticking over with his passes or even join the attack.
As his goal against Club Brugge showed, Ramos is still capable of scoring important goals to rescue results. Ramos is impervious from the penalty spot and has the technical quality to score from range in addition to in the air.
It’s remarkable how good Ramos is on the ball. He completed an incredible 90.7 percent of his passes in La Liga this season, per WhoScored.com, drawing nearly one foul per game. More importantly to Los Blancos, the superstar center back was second behind only Karim Benzema in goals scored in Spain’s top flight.
When Ramos isn’t in the lineup, as Real saw in that disastrous loss at the Parc des Princes in September, the club looks lost. He means everything to Real Madrid.
