Andriy Lunin

I have talked about the Ukrainian goalkeeper several times now and I feel like a broken record hating on Andriy Lunin, however, it is nearly impossible to find good things to say about him.

Since coming to Real Madrid as one of the players in the confusing summer of 2018, he falls into the same category as Odriozola in terms of players who were signed to fill a need at the time. Ironically, Lunin did not even fill that need for a backup goalkeeper.

Instead, Keylor Navas was demoted and Thibaut Courtois took over as the starter. Meanwhile, Andriy was loaned out and struggled mightily with Leganes making just five league appearances all season.

Trending. Thibaut Courtois has been 2020’s impact player. light

It has been a lot of the same this season for the shot-stopper as his loan stint with Real Valladolid was canceled in mid-January and he was shipped to Segunda Division side Real Oviedo.

Lunin made zero appearances for Valladolid during the fall and has started to get some playing time with Oviedo, but in the second division of Spanish football? Is that really what Real Madrid wants from a back-up goalkeeper?

Lunin will likely get one more shot on loan in 2020/2021 before he is either sold or the club decides he is ready to step in.
