Real Madrid: Dani Ceballos could return to Real Betis
By Ben Sundock
Real Madrid midfielder Dani Ceballos has enjoyed a great loan stint with Arsenal over the last nine months and has upset some Madridistas with some of the things he has said to the press. Most recently, he has mentioned that he could return to his boyhood club, Real Betis.
Real Madrid fans are very good at blowing things out of proportion and either reading into what is being said in the media too much or misunderstand comments made by a player.
It seems only fitting that once again, the comments that could upset the fanbase come from Dani Ceballos who has handled his time with Los Blancos very differently than those that came before him.
Ceballos – just a month ago – said that he was not in regular contact with manager Zinedine Zidane and has been so enjoying his time in London that he hopes he can stay with Arsenal for another season on loan or make it a permanent stay.
Now, the Spanish international has also floated the idea that he could return to the club that sold him to Real Madrid – Real Betis.
“Betis are my team, the people who know me know how much I appreciate them,” Ceballos said. “It would always be nice to play for my team for a second time.”
Hey Real Madrid fans, don’t jump to conclusions when reading this quote! Taken out of context, many would assume that the player was unhappy with his current situation and was looking to go back to Seville.
Listening to the entire clip and reading all the quotes regarding the topic, it is clear that Dani Ceballos is alluding to a return to Betis much, much later in his career.
"“I miss playing the [Seville] derbies, for me they were very special. Since I was little, I have played more than 50 derbies. When you reach the elite level and you see the rivalry between those two clubs, you understand the importance of this match. Hopefully LaLiga will come back with this game and Betis win it.”"
Ceballos was reminiscing about his developmental years in the Betis youth academy and as someone who was born and raised in Seville, it makes sense that he would have fond memories of these derbies because he played in so many and regularly contributed.
Let’s focus on the facts here and remember that Dani Ceballos is under contract with Real Madrid for another three years.
