Real Madrid attacking midfielder Martin Odegaard is the future of this team.

The 2020 summer transfer window will be filled with difficult decisions for Real Madrid, but those decisions will go beyond transfers. They will have to do with talented loanees who may be worried about how much regular playing time they’ll receive in Real’s competitive roster after posting incredible 2019-2020 seasons.

Achraf Hakimi and Sergio Reguilon are two notable names to watch with known interest from clubs around Europe, but one player who certainly won’t be transferred is Martin Odegaard. He will, however, likely spend one more season at La Real.

Odegaard is unquestionably ready to be a key player for Real Madrid and be a part of the first team. Look no further than his creative output in 2019-2020 in his first season with the keys to La Real’s attack.

However, MARCA’s Jose Felix Diaz reports that Odegaard is concerned about his playing time. He wants to be an important player to a team, and he has indeed been critical to Sociedad’s run to a Champions League place. At Real Madrid, however, he wouldn’t play every game, especially not in his first season when he’s still building his trust and chemistry.

Therefore, MARCA reports that “everything points towards” another year of Odegaard with La Real, which would undoubtedly be best for the young Norwegian’s development.

Real Madrid could get Odegaard back early instead of loaning him for two years, because Takefusa Kubo or Reinier Jesus could also be stars for La Real. But imagine the experience Odegaard would get in the Champions League for Sociedad.

The decision won’t need to be made now, and Los Merengues will have to judge other factors when considering keeping or loaning out Odegaard for another year. Can they sell James Rodriguez? How does Marco Asensio look post-injury? Is Isco going to pick up where he left off in February and March?

But as of right now, it looks like Real will exercise patience and allow Odegaard to continue to develop with Sociedad, where he is absolutely enjoying his football.
