Real Madrid defender will miss time with thigh injury
Real Madrid’s defense has taken hit with an injury to Nacho Fernandez.
Although Nacho Fernandez isn’t a critical component of Real Madrid’s defense, the versatile defender has taken on increased importance with the 2019-2020 La Liga season set to return.
Real will face Eibar on June 14 in their first game back.
Because of how many games will be played in close succession, Real Madrid will need to rotate more frequently.

Player fitness will also be tested more often, necessitating more minutes from backup players.
Someone like Nacho, who can play pretty much anywhere in the back four, becomes crucial to a team’s success.
Unfortunately, AS reports that the experienced center back and fullback has suffered a muscular injury to his right thigh.
Since so many games are going to be played over the next couple of weeks with everything packed into the schedule, Nacho will miss more La Liga games than usual if he misses multiple weeks.
Nacho could miss the upcoming game against Eibar, next Thursday’s match with Valencia, and the big Matchday 30 tilt with Real Sociedad. Afterward, Real will play against Mallorca, Espanyol, or Getafe.
Real will have their defensive depth tested over these next several weeks. We can only wish Nacho the best in his recovery, and he will be missed over these next several games. As he showed when injuries mounted in the Fall, he is capable of playing at a high level at multiple defensive positions with his defensive instincts and composed passing.
Los Blancos currently have Ferland Mendy and Marcelo as their left backs, Sergio Ramos and Raphael Varane as starting center backs with Eder Militao serving as the only real backup, and Dani Carvajal as the lone right back. Carvajal’s backup now becomes Lucas Vazquez.
Nacho suffered an MCL injury last year.
