Real Madrid had a pre-agreed deal with Donny van de Beek, but it is void now.

Although Real Madrid could use some upgrades to their attack, another young midfielder, and center back depth, Los Blancos will wisely stay put during this summer transfer window in light of the economic crisis in football.

La Liga will return next week and perhaps the Champions League will as well, but with uncertainty to follow and no fans in attendance, Real know their revenues will take a hit.

They are in a great situation as a big club, but unlike other big clubs in Europe, they will not make any risky moves this summer. Additionally, Real have sufficient depth and talent for a title run without upgrades.

More from The Real Champs

Real Madrid signed Donny van de Beek to a 55 million euro deal, but this pre-arranged transfer will not go through.

Zinedine Zidane already resisted the move to sign the young standout from Ajax, and now Real won’t be paying that kind of money in light of the current economic situation.

While Ajax aren’t offering steep discounts, The Times reports that the club is asking for 40 million euros from Manchester United.

So if Real, who still have the right of first refusal on Van de Beek, change their mind, they could sign the future superstar for 15 million euros less.

That said, don’t expect them to change their mind.

Per a report from MARCA, via Sport Witness, Real Madrid plainly told Van de Beek’s agent that they will not be signing anyone.

It seemed like Real were reluctant to sign Van de Beek since they could not make guarantees of playing time and wanted to focus their efforts on Eduardo Camavinga, who is a highly realistic 2021 transfer signing. He is also, stylistically, a better fit for Real.

Van de Beek is great and could be a sensational player for United, but Real Madrid will save their money on signings this summer. Barring an overall change in strategy, Van de Beek will either have to wait until 2021 for a move to the Santiago Bernabeu or work something out with the Red Devils in 2020.
