Real Madrid: Ranking the Five Greatest Forwards of the 2010s
5. Gonzalo Higuain
The Argentinian forward Gonzalo Higuain played for Real Madrid from 2007 to 2013. While his services at the club ended at the end of the 2012/13 season, it is a testament to his goal scoring ability that he still makes this list seven years after his departure.
From the 2010/11 season to the end of his Los Blancos career, Higuain scored 70 goals and provided 26 assists. El Pipita was also an integral part of the record-breaking 2011/12 season. He scored 22 goals in the season at an impressive rate of a goal every 78 mins.
4. Angel Di Maria
The Paris-Saint Germain forward Angel Di Maria was an unstoppable engine during his time at Real Madrid. He had lungs that could run forever. However, it was not just hard-work that kept him in the team.
Di Maria is a remarkably talented winger who danced past defenders and created brilliant opportunities for his teammates. His two-way presence was second to none. The former Los Blancos forward’s versatility was an advantage to both Jose Mourinho and Carlo Ancelotti. He was the ultimate utility player, but with tremendous talent. He played significant roles in both the 2011/12 league winning season and 2013/14 La Decima win.
The Argentine scored 36 goals and provided 62 assists in his Los Blancos stay from 2010-2014.
3. Gareth Bale
Gareth Bale joined Real Madrid in 2013 and formed a formidable trio dubbed the ‘BBC’ with Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema. The Welshman scored the winning goal in extra time in La Decima’s victory against Atletico Madrid. He also scored an incredible solo winner against the bitter rivals Barcelona in the Copa Del Rey final securing the Cup double for Los Blancos in the 2013/14 season.
Bale has scored 102 goals and provided 59 assists for the Royal Whites for a goal contribution every 110 minutes. While his production has declined in the last couple of years due to injuries, his influence in the Los Blancos’ trophy haul is undeniable.
The Merengues forward has scored the match-winner in not one but two UEFA Champions League finals, non more spectacular than the bicycle kick goal against Liverpool in the 2017/18 final.
