Zinedine Zidane has already broken a handful of records while in charge of Real Madrid and he is set to reach a huge milestone when the club returns to La Liga match play on Sunday night.

No one has transitioned from playing to coaching quite like Zinedine Zidane. The French international had a stunning career as a player between 1989 and 2006. Zizou won title after title and played for two of the biggest clubs in the world – Juventus and Real Madrid – during his prime.

Now in his second managerial stint with Los Blancos, Zizou is about to make his 200th appearance on the bench in charge of his former team.

Zidane managed Real Madrid’s Castilla youth team for three years, was one of Carlo Ancelotti’s assistants during the 2013/2014 campaign, and finally took over for Rafa Benitez in January 2016 as the head of Real Madrid’s first team.

Zizou guided Real to three consecutive Champions League titles and after coming back late in the season in 2019, has the team primed to win the league title this season and could make a run at the UCL title once again.

Although many neutral fans argue that Zidane has the best squad in the world at his disposal, it is truly incredible that he has managed the exorbitant amounts of pressure from the media and fans while winning so many titles.

He has won every trophy possible in his time as Madrid’s manager except for the Copa del Rey.

His win percentage is off the charts as well. In 199 matches, Zidane’s side has won 131 and seven titles. Zizou has quickly injected his name into the running for best Real Madrid manager of all-time alongside the likes of Vicente del Bosque and Miguel Muñoz.

It’s a shame that Real Madrid will not be playing at their home stadium and that Zinedine Zidane will not receive the proper recognition, so maybe the fanfare surrounding this milestone will be postponed until when fans are back watching live.

There is plenty to look forward to when Real Madrid face Eibar at the Estadio Alfonso di Stefano!
