Real Madrid have not dropped points since La Liga resumed in June.

After Barcelona tied with Sevilla and Real Madrid took care of business at the Anoeta Stadium against Real Sociedad, Los Blancos have returned to first place in La Liga and don’t look ready to cede that spot yet. They are coming off a professional display against Mallorca, winning 2-0 despite not having all-important defensive midfielder Casemiro.

Real cannot let their guards down, but they have beaten their two toughest opponents in the 2019-2020 La Liga season restart, even blowing out Valencia 3-0 for the second time in 2020.

Here are the top five storylines for Real Madrid in the final matches of the season.

1. In command of the title race

Although Real Madrid and FC Barcelona are tied on points, Los Blancos hold a distinct advantage over their biggest league rivals. They defeated Barcelona 2-0 at the Santiago Bernabeu in March in the season’s second Clasico to give themselves the most important edge if the two remain tied on points when the season ends. And they’ve also been more impressive on the pitch in general, even if they have suffered some truly puzzling defeats this season.

Every game feels like a title match for Real Madrid, and everyone from the players to manager Zinedine Zidane understands this. There is no margin for error in this title race. But Real look like the favorites to win the trophy, with their wins since the restart showcasing why.
