Real Madrid: Player ratings from the away win against Athletic Bilbao
Forwards
Rodrygo – 6.5/10
Rodrygo looked lively and did not lack effort. However, most of his execution lacked precision. The winger had one opportunity at the back post from Asensio’s cross, but he failed to direct his header towards goal.
He still worked hard and often tracked back to help in defense. He completed three out of six attempted dribbles in the match.
Marco Asensio – 7.5/10
Asensio was Real Madrid’s most dangerous attacking threat. He looked excellent on the ball and created few opportunities for his teammates. He served two lovely crosses, but both Benzema and Rodrygo failed to make the most out of them.
As per Understat.com, Asensio possessed an expected assist (xA) of 1.15. The Spanish international’s performance deserved an assist, but unfortunately, his teammates did not convert their chances. He had two key passes in the match.
Karim Benzema – 6/10
Karim Benzema had a poor first half and did not get into the game much until late in the second half. He got into sound attacking positions and had three big opportunities but failed to finish them.
The Frenchman also seemed a bit leg heavy, and his buildup plays were underwhelming at best.
