Real Madrid takes care of business against Deportivo Alaves with a 2-0 win at home to stay four points clear at the top.

Real Madrid takes all three points at Estadio Alfredo Di Stefano with a 2-0 victory against seventeenth place Deportivo Alaves in the search for their 34th La Liga title. Goals from Karim Benzema and Marco Asensio and a brilliant performance all around gave Los Blancos their eighth consecutive win. The Merengues stay four points clear at the top of La Liga.

Zinedine Zidane did not have any natural option for the right-back position. Dani Carvajal missed out with a suspension, and Miguel Guitierrez, called up from Castilla, lacked match fitness. So the Frenchman decided to trust Lucas Vasquez as a utility right-back. Ferland Mendy replaced the injured Marcelo on the left. Both Marco Asensio and Rodrygo Goes kept their spot flanking either side of Karim Benzema in the front. Here is how the players performed.

Goalkeeper

Thibaut Courtois – 8/10

The big Belgian goalkeeper put out another magnificent performance. While he had the disadvantage of a makeshift backline, Thibaut Courtois came up massive to make four saves in the game.

Real Madrid’s No.1 is leading the Zamora race for a reason. According to Fbref.com, he has the best save percentage, with 79% of shots saved in the league. Courtois has been a crucial element in Real Madrid’s quest for its 34th La Liga title.
