Real Madrid takes an early 1-0 over Granada, here’s a look at the goal.
Karim Benzema and Sergio Ramos have been doing the bulk of the scoring for Real Madrid this season but Ferland Mendy says he wants in on the action too. The left-back came with his shooting boots today as he obliterated the back Granada’s net.
Just 11 minutes into the match Madrid opened their scoring tally and with a goal that will most certainly be remembered by everyone. The goal was an absolute moment of pure and individual brilliance. Mendy has shown some incredible pace but this combination of chip and chase coupled with composure to strike a rolling ball is incredible.
The reactions from his teammates showed just how impressive his goal was as everyone greeted him with huge smiles and hugs.
Mendy’s highlight-reel goal was his first for Real Madrid since joining the Spanish giant’s last summer. There wasn’t any indication that he had that skill in his back pocket but that moment alone could be a giving us a glimpse into the future.
Such an act from Mendy makes the choice between him and Marcelo even trickier. Mendy has noticeably improved with every passing game since the restart and has stepped up to the plate with the absence of Marcelo due to injury.
Real Madrid still has another half to play but as time keeps ticking they look more fluid on the ball as they move it around with purpose and press when they lose it.
Karim Benzema’s goal less than 10 minutes later gives Madrid a solid two-goal lead, keeping up the pressure will be of utmost importance. Benzema scored his goal by taking Luka Modric’s pass, dribbling into the penalty area, and then stroking the ball into the far area of the net, leaving Granada with no chance. Isco had a great backheel in the build-up to the goal, too.
