Real Madrid are about to make their ninth signing of the summer for the new women’s team.

Last summer, Real Madrid signed three big-name attackers in Kosovare Asllani, Chioma Ubogagu, and Sofia Jakobsson for CD Tacon, in preparation of the team officially becoming the club’s first women’s team for the 2020-2021 season.

Those three stars, along with some other key signings early in the campaign, helped ensure Tacon stayed afloat. But now, Real Madrid know they need to sign several more stars in order to achieve their ambitions of qualifying for the Champions League, bridging the gap between themselves and traditional rivals FC Barcelona and Atletico Madrid.

Nahikari Garcia can help. The Real Sociedad forward is set to sign with Las Blancas, per a report from Mayca Jimenez of AS.

Garcia has played for La Real since 2014 when she was 16, scoring 80 goals in 148 appearances for the club. Sociedad have been trying to get her to re-sign, but it appears she’s ready for the next chapter in her career. Jimenez reports that Atletico Madrid have also been trying to sign her, but this is one star player Las Blancas won’t lose out on.

Garcia wears the No. 7 in tribute to her idol Raul, who is one of the greatest players to ever grace the pitch for Real Madrid. She can follow in her idol’s footsteps by signing, and she is reportedly in the final stages of negotiating a contract to become Florentino Perez’s ninth signing for the club.

Real have plenty of attacking talent in the likes of Jessica Martinez, Asllani, Ubogagu, and Jakobsson, but Garcia can add another dimension. The 23-year-old has a chance to become a superstar forward at Real; she has been one of the top prospects in Spain and is now capable of leading a team.

Recall that Garcia helped Real Sociedad win the 2018-2019 Copa de la Reina against the odds and has achieved a great deal of team and individual success with the Spanish youth teams. If she’s confirmed as a signing for Las Blancas, she is a major boost indeed.
