Real Madrid put on a bright first-half display and fight off a chaotic second to win 1-2 at Granada as they inch closer to the 34th La Liga title.

Real Madrid played their toughest match since the return and came out with 1-2 away victory at Granada. Barcelona FC can testify the difficulty of traveling to Estadio Nuevo Los Cármenes as they lost 2-0 against the Nazaries earlier this season. Los Blancos did not have it any easier against the hosts.

The Merengues put on a fantastic first-half display, but Diego Martinez’s men made the Royal Whites suffer and work hard in the second. However, first-half goals from Ferland Mendy and Karim Benzema, along with some heroic defending in the second were enough to see Real Madrid get three points closer to winning their 34th La Liga title.

Zinedine Zidane ditched his 4-3-3 formation in favor of a five-men midfield giving Isco and Fede Valverde the start in place of Marco Asensio and Rodrygo. Dani Carvajal and Sergio Ramos were back in the starting eleven after serving a suspension in the match against Deportivo Alaves. Here is how the players performed.

Goalkeeper

Thibaut Courtois – 6.5/10

Thibaut Courtois was unfortunate not to have extended his clean sheet run. While he could have done better to prevent Granada’s only goal, it was a result of a poor giveaway in the midfield.

Other than the goal, Courtois was his usual brilliant self. He made two crucial saves and other countless interventions to keep Real Madrid’s lead intact.

The Belgian goalkeeper continues to command his area at the highest level. Courtois also looked clean with his feet and often helped his defenders out of pressure.
