Defenders

Dani Carvajal – 6/10

Carvajal had one of his uninspiring performance against Granada. Defensively he was not at his best and offensively lacked the cutting edge.

The Spanish right-back did well on the ball and completed 95 percent of his 40 passes.

Raphael Varane – 7/10

Raphael Varane had another solid 90 minutes alongside his captain. One of Varane’s best traits as a center-defender is his positional awareness. He covers up a lot of danger by just being at the right place at the right time.

The French Worldcup winner’s positional defending was on display when he made an astounding interception to prevent a line-breaking pass to Darwin Machis, which would have sent the Granada forward one-vs-one against Courtois.

Sergio Ramos – 7.5/10

El Capitan once again came up big for his team. Even at 34, he showed how important he is to Los Blancos. Sergio Ramos was incredible at the back and put in a lot of work in the second half.

Granada was piling on the pressure and almost had the equalizer, but the Merengues captain had other ideas. His goal-line clearance from Ramon Azeez’s effort from the six-yard line was as good as one of the penalties he scored.

As per Whoscored.com, Ramos had four clearances, two successful tackles, and won two aerial duels in his 90 minutes.

Ferland Mendy – 8.5/10

Mendy has been Real Madrid’s best summer 2019 signing, and no other purchases come close. Zidane can rely on Mendy to completely lock down the defense on the left flank.

The former Lyon left-back rarely let anything past him on his side, and he was a constant threat going forward.

Mendy’s brilliant run into the box followed by a rocket into the top netting is one of the ‘Golazos’ of the season.
