Real Madrid: Bundesliga club wants to sign Luka Jovic
Real Madrid have another club to consider if they are open to selling Luka Jovic this summer.
Only one year after purchasing Luka Jovic for 60 million euros from Eintracht Frankfurt after his breakout season in the Bundesliga, Real Madrid are said to be open to offers for the Serbian international.
It’s hard to see Real Madrid actually selling Jovic after he barely played in his lone season with Los Blancos, but the club may be interested in pursuing a better player. Giving up on Jovic so early would be a mistake, and it’s unlikely a manager of Zinedine Zidane’s prudence, especially with developing talent, would want to make this decision.
But there are teams interested in Jovic. Milan have been linked the most frequently, and there are suggestions that Los Blancos could work out a loan deal instead of selling the Serbian international outright.
According to MARCA’s Jose Felix Diaz, Hertha Berlin are the latest club to show interest in Jovic. Berlin are ambitious and signed the likes of Matheus Cunha and former Milan striker Krzysztof Piatek in the winter. Jurgen Klinsmann’s spell as Berlin’s manager was short due to his own failings, but Hertha started playing excellent football at the end of the 2019-2020 Bundesliga campaign under Bruno Labbadia.
Jovic has past Bundesliga success that makes him additionally attractive to Berlin, who have ambitions of becoming Germany’s next big club, befitting their status as the capital city’s richest team playing in an Olympic stadium.
The 22-year-old striker scored eight goals in under 1,000 minutes in 2017-2018 with Eintracht, and he then exploded with 17 goals and five assists in the 2018-2019 Bundesliga season. Jovic hasn’t gotten off to a great start at Real Madrid, but he was only able to play 393 minutes, scoring two goals with one assist.
It’s hard to get playing time behind Karim Benzema, but most Madridistas would like to see the growing No. 9 receive opportunities in 2020-2021 before Los Blancos even consider selling him. Berlin probably don’t have the money to entice Real on a permanent deal, but maybe they would be willing to push for a loan despite having their own talent forwards, such as Piatek.
