Real Madrid is making a concerted effort to improve their squad ahead of the fall with the signing of Kenti Robles, how will she impact the team?
Making the jump from the second division and into the top flight is no small feat. It’s an accomplishment in its own right regardless of sport, but especially in Spain where many of the worlds best soccer players take their talent.
After the first season was cut short due to COVID-19, CD Tacon, now officially rebranded as Real Madrid finished 10th in the table despite a horrendous start to the campaign which looked to be ending in relegation.
With a clean slate and a new season in sight, Real Madrid continues their quest for domestic dominance and with that comes the challenge of building a squad that is able to embark on such a process.
It was rumored several weeks ago that Atletico Madrid and Mexico National Team starlet Kenti Robles would take a short walk across the Capital and join the up and coming Real Madrid Feminine squad.
That rumor soon became fact.
The move was surprising, to say the least. When was the last time you can recall a player from Atletico joining Real? Well, it was Theo Hernandez if you remember him at all.
Kenti’s arrival to Real isn’t charged by any bad blood but rather a player who knows nothing other than success and is looking for a new challenge. She moved to Barcelona from Mexico at 12 years old to join Espanyol’s academy. From there, she would go on to play for the senior squad, then Barcelona and Atleti.
Kenti won three league titles in succession with Barcelona between 2011 and 2014 and then back to back titles with Atletico. You also can’t forget the four Copa de la Reina’s to her name. Success just happens when Kenti is in the team.
Now, 14 years into her senior playing career, Kenti isn’t just another player on the team, she’s a leader. Experience is something that cannot be taught, it’s something that comes with time, and very few are able to positively impact those around them and share the knowledge in a meaningful way.
With Real Madrid heading into just their second season in the top flight, additional leadership and experience will be vital.
Kenti has spent her whole life in Spain and the game IQ that she can bring to her coaching staff and those around her is something you can’t put a price on.
Her experience with the Mexican National Team is a great example of how she leads from within. The national team is in the midst of a rebuild, incorporating many of their young players who play in the NCAA and Robles has been a big part of helping getting those players comfortable.
Mexico’s NT has made great strides in the past couple years and have high hopes of making the next World Cup taking place in 2023.
Real Madrid is on the straight path with Kenti as a part of the team and with players like Kosavare Asllani and Sofia Jakobsson, Los Blancas have a great shot at the finishing in the top four of the table.
There is still no word of when the 2020-2021 Liga Iberdrola will kick-off but the time will be welcomed and allow Real Madrid to come out of the gate even stronger.
