Real Madrid finally has a women’s team under its umbrella and are wasting no time signing new talent.

It has only been a couple of weeks since CD Tacon was officially rebranded as Real Madrid Femenino, but Florentino Perez is wasting no time putting together the strongest squad possible.

This week, Maria Isabel signed with Real Madrid from Club Deportivo Abanca – the women’s team of Deportivo La Coruna. On May 31, 2020, Maria posted on her Instagram a “Comunicado Oficial” expressing that she would no longer be continuing with Abanca as she is seeking new opportunities.

It is still unclear what the terms and conditions of the contract are, but Maria is without question one of the top keepers in Spain.

She signed with Atletico Madrid in 2017 as she replaced one of their keepers who was out due to injury. During her time there she won three league titles. Isabel was also a part of the U-19 team that won the European Championship in 2017.

Maria spent just one season with Abanca, a team that finished fourth in the table with 37 points, eight points shy of third-place finishers Levante UD. Nonetheless, it’s still an incredible feat considering the sheer dominance of both Barcelona and Atletico Madrid.

After a rough start to their first campaign in the first division, Tacon finished 10th in the table which is just two slots down from the middle of the table. Las Blancas are setting their sights on the top of the table and the signing of Maria is proof of that.

The team had their first training session on Tuesday at Real Madrid City and yes, they are sporting all the apparel that is also worn by the men’s team.

The squad took their first squad picture as they prepare for the upcoming season. Unfortunately, the 2019-2020 campaign was cut short due to COVID-19 but that will only fuel the team to prepare even harder for the season to come.
