Real Madrid: Iker Casillas is returning to work with Florentino Perez
Real Madrid legend Iker Casillas will return to the club in 2020 to work in a behind-the-scenes role.
Legends never leave. Real Madrid sealed the title on Thursday night with a 2-1 win over Villarreal, marking a triumphant return for three-peat manager Zinedine Zidane, who led the club to their 34th La Liga title when they were counted out of the race before the season started. Zidane is one of a few club legends to have success in a leadership position in the squad.
And Iker Casillas could soon be joining him, albeit in a behind-the-scenes role alongside Florentino Perez.
According to a report from MARCA’s Carlos Carpio, Casillas is returning to Real Madrid and will work closely with president Florentino Perez in an advisory role. Per Carpio, Perez and Casillas will figure out the legendary keeper’s responsibilities in the “coming weeks”.
San Iker is one of the greatest Madridistas ever and one of the greatest goalkeepers ever. He’s won La Liga five times, the Copa del Rey twice, and the Champions League three times with Real Madrid. The former captain also had great success with Spain as a part of the team that won three straight major competitions from 2008 to 2012.
It’s incredible to hear that Casillas will be returning to the Santiago Bernabeu soon to work with Perez in this role. Zinedine Zidane has played a huge part in Real’s success over the past several years, identifying and developing key talent, such as star center back Raphael Varane, before coming arguably the greatest manager in the world.

Perhaps similar success awaits Casillas’, whose leadership, talent, and football IQ were also held in extremely high regard during his playing days.
