Real Madrid played like champions to earn a 2-1 victory over Villareal and claimed their 34th La Liga title at Estadio Alfredo Di Stefano.

Real Madrid went into the match against Villareal knowing that a win at home will secure their 34th La Liga title. Zinedine Zidane’s men stepped unto the pitch with purpose, won their 10th straight match, and were crowned La Liga champions of the 2019/2020 season. Karim Benzema scored a goal either side of the half coupled with some heroic goalkeeping late in the game to seal the win for Los Blancos.

Zidane made only two changes from the game against Granada. Eden Hazard got his first start since the match against Espanyol. Rodrygo got his third start in four games as the Real Madrid manager switched back to a 4-3-3 formation. Here is how the champions performed.

Goalkeeper

Thibaut Courtois – 8/10

Thibaut Courtois was unfortunate that he did not keep another clean sheet as there was nothing he could have done to save Villareal’s goal. The fantastic header by Iborra was well beyond the Belgian’s reach.

However, Courtois deserves full credit to keep the score at 2-1. He made a crucial double save towards the end of the match following the efforts of Javier Ontiveros and Bruno Soriano.

The Belgian goalkeeper continued his fantastic form in between the post and is well on his way to win the Zamora trophy.
