Rodrygo Goes

Rodrygo is that kid you’d see on Disney Channel TV shows who was eight years old but somehow taking a class in high school. He came in last summer with a very shy “Hala Madrid” as he stood before a room of journalists in the press room of the Bernabeu and seemed to be another ‘cross your fingers and hope’ he becomes one of the biggest names in the game type signing.

Those who knew him also knew the product would come, it would just take some patience. Rodrygo started off his season with the Castilla team, managed by another legend, Raul. Fans begged and pleaded for Zidane to call the 19-year-old up as he tore apart his opponents.

Far too often, young players are brought up before their time and look like a deer in the headlights, but the Brazilian was no Bambi. In just his second-ever Champions League game, he scored a sublime hat-trick against Galatasary and bagged an assist before taking the match ball home.

Since the restart, Rodrygo has been a pain in the behind for defenders.

His quick interplay and pace forced him to see the underside of defenders cleats more than he cared for. Even when brought on as a substitute, his creativity and can-do attitude sparks the attack of Real Madrid who’ve played a jam-packed 10 games.

The raw talent is there for Rodrygo, now it’s time for the winger to keep developing his game. Having played a little under 1,400 minutes this season, has shown it doesn’t take a lot to develop an understanding of game tactics and chemistry with those around him. A prime example is his link-up with Karim Benzema and wing-mates Dani Carvajal and Luka Modric.
