Real Madrid traveled to Leganes for the last matchday of the season and came away with a 2-2 draw.

Real Madrid traveled to their city neighbors Leganes, and they got greeted with a guard of honor by the hosts. Leganes was fighting for survival as they needed a win to stay in the top flight. Los Blancos had already clinched La Liga title, and most players seemed hungover from the title win. Goals from Sergio Ramos and Marco Asensio for the Merengues got canceled out by goals from Bryan Gill and Roger Assale for Leganes.

Zinedine Zidane had the opportunity to make a wholesale change with the league already clinched. Thibaut Courtois got the rest, and with it, the Zamora Trophy, as Alphonse Areola got a rare start. Dani Carvajal, Raphael Varane, Luka Modric, and Toni Kroos all go the rest for the final matchday. Lucas Vazquez, Eder Militao, Fede Valverde, and Isco deputized, respectively. Marco Asensio and Vinicius Junior also got the start either side of Karim Benzema. Here is how the players performed.

Goalkeeper

Alphonse Areola 5/10

Areola got a rare start between the sticks. The PSG loanee looked good on the ball and commanded his area well to contain aerial-balls from Leganes. He also had an excellent punch to keep out the danger following a long-ball from Ivan Cuellar.

However, Leganes scored two goals past him, and Areola should have done better with both of them. Both the goals went in from a tight angle, the first one underneath him, and the second one was right next to him. Areola should have at least kept one of them out.
