Real Madrid: The four players seen as priorities to sell this summer
Real Madrid will need to sell players who are a surplus to the squad’s requirements this summer.
As the champions of La Liga, Real Madrid have to feel great about their squad heading into the summer 2020 transfer window. It’s imperative they do, too, because they won’t be able to make any major signings due to the current financial situation in football
In fact, Real Madrid will be sellers this summer, one year after acquiring 300 million euros worth of talent. They have a few veteran players who need to be sold to make money, and they may even sell more young players like they already did with Achraf Hakimi.
According to a report from MARCA’s Mario G. Estrela, Los Blancos are prioritizing the sale of four attacking players. There are other players they will be willing to listen to offers to, but MARCA states that Gareth Bale, James Rodriguez, Mariano Diaz, and Luka Jovic are the ones who are the focus to sell.
Bale and James are obvious. Neither of them have a future in Zinedine Zidane’s squad and were, save for a couple of games, pretty much cut out from the squad in the 11 games after La Liga’s return. Since Real Madrid won the league and were undefeated in those 11 matches, it’s safe to say those two aren’t important players to the team.
They also have huge wages, so selling them will be difficult. Bale, in particular, will be tough to sell, and he seems to have no intention of leaving.
Mariano is not a surprise either. He’s found it even more difficult to play than either Bale or James, but he should be easy to sell. Mariano has a great reputation, works hard, and has modest wages. His goal against Barcelona will always stand out to fans, many of whom wish Mariano could have gotten real chances to play. Another team would be lucky to have him.
It’s a surprise to hear that Jovic is a priority to sell, but maybe Real Madrid want to find a better No. 9 behind Karim Benzema. They could sell Jovic for the right offer from a Serie A club like Milan or Napoli, but, in this market, that’s unlikely. Jovic is more valuable to Los Blancos.
