Real Madrid need to sell attacking midfielder James Rodriguez this summer, otherwise he’s gone for free.

After winning their 34th La Liga title, Real Madrid will need to make some transfers this summer in order to make sure they remain financially strong. Los Blancos won’t make any major signings this year, but they will clear out space in their squad for younger players by making some sales.

James Rodriguez is one of the star players Real Madrid will move this summer. With one year left on his contract, Real must sell James this summer in order to avoid him leaving for free in the winter. Although James’ value has taken a hit due to injuries, a lack of playing time, and COVID-19’s economic impact, Real could still get more than 20 million euros for the playmaker.

According to a report from El Chiriniguito, via MARCA, there are four teams showing more interest than anyone else in James. Those teams are Benfica, Inter Milan, AC Milan, and Manchester United. They are far from the only teams linked to James, but they are said to be the four teams pursuing him the hardest.

Benfica is a surprise to see on the list, as they may not be able to afford him. The clubs from Milan are both ambitious and willing to spend on a veteran No. 10 who can lift them over the top. Inter already bought Achraf Hakimi from Real Madrid, and James could really help them push Juventus a little more as they look to break up the Bianconeri’s monopoly on the Scudetto.

Manchester United may be the most interesting option, even after signing Bruno Fernandes this winter to great effect. The Red Devils have more money than any of those clubs and have been linked frequently to the Colombian. It doesn’t seem realistic for them to sign James, but Madridistas will hope their interest is real because of their financial power.
