Real Madrid striker Luka Jovic will be one of the most in-demand strikers on the transfer market this summer.
Last year, Real Madrid swooped in and paid Eintracht Frankfurt 60 million euros for Luka Jovic, who was coming off a major breakout season in the Bundesliga. One of the best players in the Europa League, Jovic stood out for this athleticism, deadly finishing, and chemistry with fellow frontment Sebastian Haller and Ante Rebic.
All three moved out of Frankfurt in 2019, but Jovic commanded the highest price due to his goals and age. But Real Madrid didn’t need his goals in 2019-2020, winning the title with Karim Benzema starting nearly every game as Lionel Messi’s lone competition in the Pichichi race.
Real could sell Jovic this summer, and there are rumblings that they will. But Zinedine Zidane has publicly supported the striker he told Florentino Perez to sign, and Jovic’s play on the pitch quietly shows that he is an impressive player who can become Real’s No. 9 of the future.
So a loan deal could be the best option for Los Blancos. According to a report from The Shields Gazette’s Liam Kennedy, Newcastle United are evaluating Jovic as a player they would potentially like to sign on loan.
Since Real paid 60 million euros for Jovic and are in no hurry to sell him, they would have to receive a hefty price near that amount. But that’s unlikely in this market. Los Merengues want to raise money to buy players, but they won’t sell someone like Jovic at less than his value.
Newcastle, meanwhile, need strikers. They’ve only scored a handful of goals from their strikers this season and have one of the worst attacks in Europe. This Premier League side has ambitions of competing at the highest level, and Jovic could help them significantly in 2020-2021.
Out of all the possible loan deals, Newcastle seems to make a lot of sense, along with Milan, who have Jovic’s old friend Rebic playing a starring role. Keep a close eye on more news about the Magpies’ interest, because they could be the best Premier League destination for Jovic on a one-year loan, perhaps.
