Matthijs de Ligt

Many Madridistas liken Juventus star center back Matthijs de Ligt to Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos, and why not? De Ligt is a commanding presence on the pitch and is a lionheart leader. He was just 18 when he captained Ajax, becoming the youngest captain in the storied Amsterdam club’s history.

Having a tall build allows de Ligt to be a huge threat from set pieces, as demonstrated by the fact that he is a great header of the ball. His defensive abilities are already incredible for someone his age, although he is still a work in progress and his tackling definitely needs refinement.

Sergio Ramos is 34. It would be safe to say that he has at least two entire seasons of football left in him. He is an absolute freak in the sense that his fitness levels are conspicuous.

De Ligt will turn 21 in August, and if Real Madrid can sign him in the next couple of seasons, the club will find a like-to-like replacement for the seemingly irreplaceable center-back. The best-case scenario would be to sign him while Ramos is still an important figure so that de Ligt could improve his leadership skills by emulating him.
